Eileen: How neat, not a bird I have seen before.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the is feathers re so fluffy. And I love the owl below. Amazing captures!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. It looks so quiet, adn comfy.
ReplyDeleteI love nuthatches. You got some great shots of them. There are quite a few that live in my yard/garden but the move so fast they are hard to photograph.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my nature notes and to answer your question the berries are from bittersweet vines.
These are adorable. The nuthatch looks at home on your deck. (I used to have birds visit my deck until the raccoons ate the birdseed.) I miss those days. I'm going to try some other birder hints to keep away the coons. BTW, LOVE your blog header!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting our blog... yours is as interesting...
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Eileen!!
ReplyDeleteThese are very lovely birds. Well done, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a Brown-Headed Nuthatch....how pretty. The other two I am used to, but always very welcome visitors. Nuthatches are such clowns to watch as they go every which way.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fuzzy and cute. And I agree about it looking quiet and comfy. Perhaps that's one reason people watch birds?
ReplyDeleteAww, you have such sweet little birds to watch.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit. In answer to your comment:
The other cats I saw in Tiberias a few blocks from the lake foraged in dumpsters and looked very poor and thin. This cat was healthy looking, maybe because its territory is the beach and the Promenade along the Sea, which is full of fish restaurants. Tasty scraps.
Eileen, great shots. So lovely! I could sit back, relax and watch these little guys all day.
ReplyDeleteYou really snapped some great shots of these birdies! You must have a ton of patience!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween & Have a Great Weekend
Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of little birds visiting my hanging plants and scratching in them. I have no idea what they are or what they're doing. :)
Wonderful shots. We've got a bird feeder, but I need to get a pole, the birds don't seem to want to come to the patio where I have it hanging. Could it be the scarecrow or perhaps the cat that is always sitting in the door watching them?
ReplyDeleteMy CC
These are such beautiful shots...I wish I knew more about birds but I always appreciate their great beauty very much. I often photograph them but don't know their names...lovely little critters!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful nature nut! Thank you for visiting My Muskoka !
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
Great shots. I love to watch nuthatches scoot around on trees, defying gravity. Very cute birds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of these feathered visitors ... thanks for sharing ;-)

Wonderful bird photos. All your blogs have so beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Beautiful photos. I love all three of those birds. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat bird photos! I'm happy to have the nuthatches differentiated.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love to watch these little critters run up and down trees as if defying gravity!
ReplyDeleteNice shots Eileen and good catch with the snowy owl I take it from your post that they are uncommon this far south.
You asked some time ago if any birds eat poke, pop over to see your proof.
NIce capture's Eileen, have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteWhat nice looking photos! I have trouble getting good photos before birds fly away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my cc post.
Nice shots Eileen, good thing you know their names, cause I don't. I am learning their names one at a time.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Looks like your deck railing is a magnet for birds. Wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching nuthatches as they are sometimes characters!
ReplyDeletewoww.. i love your entry, so beautiful..
ReplyDeletethanks for coming by
I love the nuthatches. I've never seen the brown-headed nuthatch before.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe birds don't always have to be big ones ;D
Very interesting birds and a great series of photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and charming birds. Those varieties you show here we don´t have.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week. :)
Nice! Nuthatches of all kinds are sooooooooooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat great captures! I've heard people talk about nuthatches, but I'd never seen one.
ReplyDeleteCalico Contemplations
They're cute. I've never heard of Nuthatches before.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the range of all three of these Nuthatch species overlapped. I have only seen the Brown-headed once, what a cutie and what a darling call it has! Here (northern Illinois) we only regularly have White-breasted, and Red-breasted when we are lucky.
ReplyDeleteI'll trade your Brown-headed for a Pygmy. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood to have them come so close to you.
ReplyDeleteOh boy all three nuthatches. I have white-breasted all year and the occasional red-breasted and I get so excited. Lovely post for Nature Notes... Michelle
ReplyDeleteGreat seeing three species of nuthatch together Eileen. That Brown-headed Nuthatch would be a lifer for me.
ReplyDeleteI read that they are one of the few birds that have been documented using tools. Apparently, they use pine bark chips to pry off other bark chips while they forage.
I have never seen a Brown-headed Nuthatch, and we just had our first Red-breasted Nuthatch here last week! Love all your photos...nuthatches are such fun little birds!
ReplyDeleteWe have White breasted here - but I've never seen the other two...I would LOVE to!
