Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes and NC Sue Wordless
I hope you can join in and share your wild birds and nature scenes.
For this week's Wild Bird I am sharing the Roseate Spoonbill I saw during our Florida trips. We were able to see the Roseate Spoonbill in various parks like Merritt Island NWR, Corkscrew Sanctuary and the Circle B Reserve.
This bird has long legs, neck and a grey bill.
The Pink feathers are a deep pink when in breeding season.
The Spoonbill swings its bill from side to side looking for food in the water. The spoon shape helps it to sift thru mud.
The Roseate Spoonbill nest in shrubs or trees and can lay from 2-5 eggs. It is a beautiful birds with its coloring and one of my favorite Florida birds. I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post and photos. Till next week's wild bird post. Join in and post your birdies and to see more beautiful and wonderful bird and nature photos please visit:

So pretty, those colors are just so happy and bright.
ReplyDeleteOh, gee, I loved this post. I had always before been so captivated by their color and thinking how LOrelei would love them for that--I had not noticed their head and bill, other than to notice its shape. In that one shot, their head almost looks like a skull.
ReplyDeleteI think I have told you before, but I am so glad you post a picture big enough to enlarge.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty color and yet the teeth make it's face seem menacing. Stranger than fiction.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see this, Eileen!

Their bills are so cool!
ReplyDeleteI went to Merritt Island NWR once and really liked it. I did not see the spoon bills however.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I have only spotted these beauties in the St. Augustine area and on Sanabel Island at Ding Darling. You have taken outstanding photographs of the big wading birds. I will be offline after today for about a week. Have a great Wednesday tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult to believe that a bird can be almost pure pink, but there's the proof. What great pictures Eileen and no wonder you like Florida. I must try to get there. Enjoy the rest of your birding week.
ReplyDeleteThey are really the best thing ever! Even after we've been in Florida for quite a few seasons now I still get a lump in my throat every time I see a spoonbill.

ReplyDeleteI've never seen one. Gorgeous birds, if not a bit funny looking!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful coloring! Pink and gray - a favorite color combo! It's so amazing how nature creates a bird for every environment. The spooned bill is certainly an interesting adaptation! Great photos, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteWonderful looking birds. I wish we had them here.
ReplyDeletePretty in pink! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteThis has got to be (so far) my favorite among the birds I have seen with my own two eyes.

ReplyDeleteI'm with Stewart... and they are one of those birds with which one can gain a sense of the prehistoric nature of the feathered species! This is not to say they are not astoundingly beautiful... YAM xx
Spoony Bills!
ReplyDeleteThe color on these birds is amazing! Almost like cotton candy - mind you I am a vegetarian :)

What a neat one- I don't guess I have ever seen this bird. Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your birding. Great Photos .
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see these birds and great captures!
ReplyDeleteI love roseate spoonbills too - not always easy to find unless one goes out very early in the morning - at least around where I live.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting bird, love the pink plumage, thanks for the information on this unusual bird.
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty birds!
ReplyDelete~
What a great bird, wonderful colors Eileen.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking bird. Love the pink flush compared to our own white Spoonbills.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure having a spoon at the end of one's bill must be so much easier for grabbing food. I know I find a spoon easier than chopsticks, for instance.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting bird! It looks like a dinosaur head in that first shot.
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual-looking bird. The shade of pink reminds me of a cartoon character. Thank you for sharing and teaching.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful birds! Great shots, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteVariety of moods in gorgeous images! Well done!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting bird. I've not seen one of these before...well, I don't think I have anyhow. I like the pink feathers. :D Cool shots!
